About a month ago, Jacob won two gold fish at the school fall festival. His fish did not make it through the night, but Caden’s fish, “Nemo” was alive and well. My husband wanted to ensure that the boys did not lose another fish, so out we went and bought a tank with a filter and air stone. It is definitely much fancier than the pretty flower vase I was going to put it in. As part of the agreement for keeping the fish, Jacob had to learn to clean the tank (after Dad showed him the first few times) and feed the fish. Little Nemo has a pretty sweet fish tank with multi-colored lights, but he does seem to be a bit of a slob! After just a couple of days, the bottom of his home fills up with debris, fish poop, and excess fish food. After being with us for just a few weeks, he just did not seem to be a very happy little fish. When we first placed him in his tank he swam around wildly, as if he was saying, “I am free, free at last!” So after cleaning the tank, replacing the air filter, and cutting back on his food, there did not seem to be much progress in getting the suddenly lazy fish to swim anywhere but the bottom of the tank! I am a big animal lover, so I have had a few talks with our friend Nemo and asked that he not go to fishy heaven. This afternoon he gave me a glimmer of hope and he swam wildly around the tank before settling to the bottom, again…ugh! I am not sure what is going on! I have read everything from: the fish is bored, sick, overfed, the tank is dirty, etc. I am not sure what is going on because we have addressed all of those issues. Anyone out there a gold fish expert?
