We have officially reached the half-way mark in the school year! We are well on our way to fifth grade and kindergarten!
If you remember back in August, I mentioned that Jacob would be starting a new challenge at school. He basically skipped through fourth grade curriculum and moved onto fifth grade reading, math, spelling, and language arts, while still remaining with his fourth grade peers. I worked quite a bit with him over the summer getting him ready for the change. It has really seemed to pay off in terms of being the right fit for him academically; he has continued to remain on honor roll, which makes my husband and I incredibly proud!
So far, there have been just a few bumps in the road socially. After a couple of months of working with Jacob and more recently another parent, everything has seemed to iron itself out, and all is well in fourth grade! On a side note, I never knew that boys could be “mean girls” and cause so much drama! Let’s just say that out of this situation, Jacob has come out more self-assured and has really learned how to stand up for himself!
Thankfully the drama has not spread to preschool…at least not yet! Although Caden has already identified two girls he has referred to as a future “wife!” I have had to remind him that when we are four and in preschool, we do not kiss our wife like he sees Mommy and Daddy do. In true big brother fashion, Jacob is keeping an eye out during playground time, and has reported “hand holding, but nothing else!” That boy!!
As you can tell, Caden is a complete character! His teacher refers to him as “A delightful little boy!” This totally warms my heart, because while he is as sweet as sugar, he is also very stubborn and a bit feisty, too! Although sweet and feisty are two great personality traits, if I do say so myself! 🙂
Socially Caden is really soaring; all of the staff have remarked how mature he is for being the youngest child in his class. I am very pleased, and to be honest, a tad bit shocked because at home he loves to be the “baby.” Academically he is doing well. He is learning how to blend consonants and vowels together in order to begin reading. Sight words are our next big thing! In math, he knows how to identify numbers and is on his way to counting to 100! His handwriting is also coming along, and he is doing very well with print, but in my teacher opinion, I think cursive seems to be a bit easier for him because of the natural flow.
Our family is definitely in the flow of things, and this school year will be over before we know it! I cannot believe how fast time is flying by.
